Floor Preparation Checklist
Bring room access, visible conditions, material decisions, and the questions that need a site review into one useful record before flooring work is priced or scheduled.
Use before an estimate visit or installation day planning call for a home flooring project.
- List the rooms, current floor coverings, furniture plan, and any areas that must stay accessible.
- Photograph wide room views, transitions, stairs, door swings, closets, and any visible floor concerns.
- Record water staining, odors, soft spots, loose flooring, cracks, or height changes as observations without diagnosing the cause.
- Confirm who will move furniture, disconnect appliances, remove breakables, and secure pets before work begins.
- Note parking, gate, elevator, stair, loading, and neighborhood access details that affect material delivery or waste removal.
- Identify owner supplied materials, including flooring, underlayment, transitions, base, trim, and accessories, before ordering or scheduling.
- Ask which doors, cabinets, appliances, and adjacent floors need a finished height or transition review.
- Keep a single contact and a daytime decision path available for field questions or newly visible conditions.

Flooring Turn and Handoff Checklist
Organize unit sequence, access, known conditions, material responsibility, and the daily handback standard before a turnover or occupied area flooring scope is requested.
Use for one unit, a grouped turn, or a phased flooring plan in an occupied property.
- Create a unit list with building, floor level, sequence, access contact, and ready date for each space.
- Record each room, approximate area, existing flooring, and visible condition with labeled photos.
- Separate known leaks, odors, staining, loose areas, soft spots, and prior repairs from conditions that need field evaluation.
- Confirm who controls keys, resident notices, pet arrangements, elevator reservations, loading access, and quiet hour requirements.
- Identify furniture, appliances, base, tack strip, adhesive, debris, and disposal responsibilities before work is released.
- State the material source and approval contact for flooring, adhesive, underlayment, transitions, base, and owner supplied items.
- Set the daily cleanup, temporary protection, safe handback, punch, and emergency contact expectations for each phase.
